Austin Zoo
Posted by miri On 25 February, 2006
Since it was overcast, drizzly and I still wasn’t feeling well, I decided to go take pictures at the small Austin Zoo today. (I never said I made sense, did I?) You can see the full set here.

U.S. Reclassifies Many Documents in Secret Review
Posted by miri On 20 February, 2006
From an article on the New York Times site:
In a seven-year-old secret program at the National Archives, intelligence agencies have been removing from public access thousands of historical documents that were available for years, including some already published by the State Department and others photocopied years ago by private historians.
The restoration of classified status to more than 55,000 previously declassified pages began in 1999, when the Central Intelligence Agency and five other agencies objected to what they saw as a hasty release of sensitive information after a 1995 declassification order signed by President Bill Clinton. It accelerated after the Bush administration took office and especially after the 2001 terrorist attacks, according to archives records.

Greek Hiker Finds 6,500-Year-Old Pendant
Posted by miri On 16 February, 2006
Why can’t I ever find anything this cool while out hiking? Oh yeah, I never go hiking.
A Greek hiker found a 6,500-year-old gold pendant in a field and handed it over to authorities, an archaeologist said Thursday.
The flat, roughly ring-shaped prehistoric pendant probably had religious significance and would have been worn on a necklace by a prominent member of society.

Washington DC

During a visit to Washington DC, I got to see snow. (Yes, I know. It’s not a big deal for a lot of people, but I haven’t seen this much snow since childhood.)
Until I get the full set uploaded here, you can see “the best of” on flickr.
