Soldier’s Smallpox Inoculation Sickens Son

File this under the rather full “Things I didn’t know” category – you can get sick from someone else’s vaccine.
A 2-year-old boy spent seven weeks in the hospital and nearly died from a viral infection he got from the smallpox vaccination his father received before shipping out to Iraq, according to a government report and the doctors who treated him.
…
Experts said the father, who had eczema in childhood, should never have been given the vaccine because that fact made him more susceptible to side effects like vaccinia infection. And they said military doctors should have been doubly cautious because the son, too, suffered from eczema and would have been highly susceptible to infection. Military procedures call for asking about such conditions in soldiers and their families.

There’s a century plant starting to bloom at the end of my block. Here it is a few days ago – I hope to catch it again when the blooms open up.

I haven’t seen him in at least a month and found him laying in the yard yesterday. He was very skinny and lethargic – wouldn’t even get up to eat some food. Today, he was moving around but has a fierce limp. It’s his back right leg (which he seems to be sitting on oddly here) that’s giving him problems.

Congressmen try to survive on $21 in food stamps for a week – and they say it ain’t easy. Imagine that.
Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) stood before the refrigerated section of the Safeway on Capitol Hill yesterday and looked longingly at the eggs.
At $1.29 for a half-dozen, he couldn’t afford them.
Ryan and three other members of Congress have pledged to live for one week on $21 worth of food, the amount the average food stamp recipient receives in federal assistance. That’s $3 a day or $1 a meal. They started yesterday.

Found some old faded pictures and scanned them in. The results are…frightening.

I came across this site and figured what would it hurt to get a free account and try to sell some photos?
