What’s on my iPod
Posted by miri On 17 December, 2004
On one of my forums, we’ve been talking “gadgets” and the wonders of the iPod. So, I decided to go ahead and put this page up even though I don’t have it working just like I want it to. (For example: Where’s the search?) But, it’s been sitting there waiting for me to finish it forever…
Security and Open Source
Posted by miri On 14 December, 2004
It’s good to see studies that are proving what people in the open source community have thought to be correct all along.
According to a four-year analysis of the 5.7 million lines of Linux source code conducted by five Stanford University computer science researchers, the Linux kernel programming code is better and more secure than the programming code of most proprietary software.
And, another interesting story on an entirely different topic: If You Move to America, You May Get Fat.
Long-term exposure to American culture may be hazardous to immigrants’ health. A new study found that obesity is relatively rare in the foreign-born until they have lived in the United States — the land of drive-thrus, remote controls and double cheeseburgers — for more than 10 years.

Filling the Ranks

Retired Army colonel, 70, sent to Afghanistan:

The Flow of Traffic

Here’s a fascinating article on traffic flow design and how removing traffic signs can actually make roads safer. Okay, I know you are thinking, “fascinating? traffic flow?” — but trust me. It’s interesting!

Hee!

Best laugh I had today:
The Republican National Committee announced today that the Republican party is changing its emblem from an elephant to a condom. The committee chairman explained that the condom more clearly reflects the party’s stance today, because a condom accepts inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives you a sense of security while you’re actually getting screwed.
Huh?

I just have one question for 51% of my fellow Americans: What the hell were you thinking?
