In the News

Wedgie makes the dictionary. You mean it wasn’t already in there? Huh.

And, as a lover of accents, how could I not enjoy this NYTimes Article about how the “Liverpool [England] accent is boldly growing thicker”

Can Firefox outfox IE?

CNET has an interesting article on just how uphill the battle is going to be.

Battling browsers are back. Just as in the 1990s, when Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Netscape’s Navigator fought each other for supremacy, today Mozilla’s Firefox browser is trying to gain traction over IE.

Smelly Balls

iPod List

I’ve updated the list of songs on my iPod – up to 3714 now.

Prepackaged News

There’s a NYTimes article about how the government is selling “prepackaged” news stories to stations. They are aired on local news stations as if they were standard segments. This isn’t anything new, but it seems that the Bush administration is using this tool most aggressively. Check out the article.

Elliptical Trainer

I’ve been thinking about buying an elliptical trainer for awhile. It’s the same old debate: if I spend all that money, will I actually use it? Will it just be a new, expensive and rather large dust magnet? Well, I bought one today. I did a lot of research online last night and had a few models I wanted to give a test drive. I was concerned about it being sturdy enough for me and I wanted one that had a super smooth motion. I decided on a New Balance 9.0. I ended up getting it for the same price that I found online via Froogle, so that felt pretty good. It took myself and Jess quite a time to get it assembled – I don’t think I could have done it myself. Thanks Jess! It takes up all of the space in my guest room. In fact, we had to put it on a diagonal in order to fit it in there. (My guest room is pretty small and the trainer is darn big.)

Now the hard part – getting in the habit of using it at least 4 times a week.

footerStick

Ooh! I may have to fiddle with this and give it a try. It looks like it could be a good way to format footers using css.

Macular Degeneration

According to this article, scientist have linked macular degeneration to a gene mutation. This could be good news for the millions of people who suffer from this disorder – especially since it’s not really treatable right now.

Facing the Music

Well, poop:

Ever wonder why “WKRP in Cincinnati” hasn’t shown up on DVD yet (unlike, I’m sorry to say, “Too Close for Comfort”)? Wired.com reports that the release of that classic show is held up by copyright and licensing issues to do with the extensive music clips used on the show.

U2

It looks like my streak of seeing U2 at least once on every tour since 1983 will continue – I just bought tickets for the Dallas show in October. October?? Wow, that’s a long ways away.
