Toxic flip-flops?
Posted by miri On 23 July, 2007
The news is full of problems with products manufactured in China. I’m sure the people in China are feeling like the world is dumping on them, but… Here’s another possibility: flip-flops that cause chemical burns.
Frighteningly cute. . .

…baby otter pictures can be found here. Click on the thumbnails for large super-cute photos. The little guy was found in Tyler, Tx nestling against his dead mom. He was taken in by a family and is now at the Texas State Aquarium where he’s trying to learn how to be an otter. Yep, I told you – frighteningly cute.

Geese butt
Posted by miri On 18 July, 2007
Another week of meetings at the place with a duck/geese pond. I’m sad that I missed getting a shot of the ducks this morning as they waddled in front of the computer store. (They dispersed before I could get my car parked and my camera out.)

Elgin
Posted by miri On 14 July, 2007
For some reason, I drove to Elgin today. (I was driving back home after getting my hair cut and just kept going.) I walked the main street in their “historic downtown” and took photos. I’ve started posting them here and will probably finish posting the rest of them tomorrow.
Raining…again

This was two hours ago. Now it’s all sun-shiny hot and very steamy.
Snoring
Posted by miri On 12 July, 2007
I’ve always wondered how bad a snorer I am. I’m overweight and a mouth breather – I figure it’s inevitable I snore. Whenever I ask people, they are usually too polite to say, “you snore like a freight train.†Since I have a lot of problem getting to sleep at night, I’m very sensitive to the snoring of others and bitch about it constantly. This has gotten me a lot of dirty looks and I figure it’s because people are thinking, “pot? Meet kettle.†So, last night I decided to find out just how bad things are…
I have a little digital recorder that I can set to record only when it hears something. I put it in “voice activation†mode and put it beside my bed last night. The recording goes something like this:
“Mishka! Stop it!â€
“What’s going on in there? Stop it nowâ€
Meow? Meow? Meow? Meow?
“Shut upâ€
“Ow! No biting!â€
Meow? Meow? Meow? Meow?
Followed by hours of god-awful snoring until the drive filled up. Oye. How does anyone manage to sleep in the same room I do?

In a brilliant marketing campaign by the Simspons Movie, a very limited number of 7-Elevens were given Kwik-E-Mart makeovers. I drove to the one in Dallas and it was PACKED!
My photos in the strangest places
Posted by miri On 9 July, 2007
Bighugelabs.com has a new flickr tool called “DNA” that includes an “ego” search of who/what is linking to your photos. I gave it a whirl and found some of mine in the strangest places.
- O Mueller Pioneers (okay, not that strange given the number of photos I’ve taken at Mueller)
- phillyist.com – what a random place for a photo taken at the Austin Zoo
- Ash and Deshar – liked Mishka as a lolcat
- David Crow
- Superstitious Hyperrealist – links to a graffiti photo
- Corsaria
- Pandafix – again, not too surprising
- Animal Grahams – most definitely not a lion in the wild
- The Cute Project – another panda photo
- Flickring Tales
