The Ground Up

I’m really enjoying this site: The Ground Up. Of course, it’s hard for someone like me to not like a site that says:

Remember, when it comes to this administration, there are no arguments, there is no logic. In the place of deliberative debate, we get “strong leadership,” which translates into reductive morality plays, cheap rhetoric, and petty sophistries. The Sun King feels neither the constraints of syntax, nor reason.

God Clarifies Don’t Kill Rule

I know this is kind of old, but it’s also quite brilliant – funny, sad and true all at the same time. If only more people would get the message.

Plumbing Test

Okay, so the theory is, my house’s plumbing is now a-okay and they will fill in the hole in my garage tomorrow. Shall I really push things by trying to run the dishwasher and the washing machine at the same time?

Escalating Costs

I knew I was going to have to pay two insurance deductibles (for a total of $1,000) plus the cost of new pipes for my recent house repairs. What I didn’t realize was how much the pipes/plumbing was going to cost. So far, around $800. *sigh*

DVD Player

Well, I finally broke down and put a technological toe in the current century – I bought a DVD player. It took hours, a special convert, 2 extra cable cords and a switcher, but I managed to hook it up to my TV and stereo so that I can still tape things on my VCR and use the bunny ears to improve the TV reception. (Yes, I still use bunny ears – no cable.) I just listened to/watched the U2 DVD someone gave me for Christmas – it was wonderful! On to the next DVD…

Pete? Pete?

This is most disturbing. Please, Pete, don’t let this be true.

Under House Pond

Sure enough – you have a big hole dug under your house to fix leaky pipes and what happens? It rains for two days straight. I now seem to have an under-the-house pond.

House Tunnel

Well, the big dig starts tomorrow. They are going to start tunneling under the house to get to my leaking pipes. This should be interesting.

Harry Otter Bond

There’s a great theater near where I live. It’s called Alamo Drafthouse and you can order dinner and beer and stuff while you watch your movie. It’s a 4-plex and they have a rather large sign near the roadway upon which they display the titles of the movies they are showing. The sign is divided into 4 sectors, but since they sometimes show more than one movie per theater, they have to combine titles in the sectors. This can sometimes create what appears to be a single movie title…and often sounds much more interesting than the actual movies they are showing. Today, this effect was furthered by a missing letter: “Harry Otter Bond.” Sounds like some sort of odd porn movie to me…’
