I’m so tired of this

Dear Senator Clinton,

You agreed to disenfranchise the voters of Michigan and Florida, so don’t try to say that not counting their votes is akin to what’s going on in Zimbabwe unless you include yourself in the group of people denying voters the right to express their opinions sans coercion. You only cared about their votes when you realized you desperately needed them in order to gain the office you  think you deserve.

The DNC rules committee might be full of bull-shitters who care more about rules than true democracy, but the decision they handed down was actually a favor to you. It wasn’t exactly what Obama wanted – as your talking heads have been saying – and it wasn’t the silliness that you proposed since that proposal was against the existing rules on the books. It was a compromise.

I full and wholeheartedly agree with you that this country needs election reform. Our current process is an embarrassment to this fine country. But you can’t enact reform in the middle of or near the end of an ongoing election.

If you had any true interest in seeing a Democrat in the office of President, you wouldn’t be doing anything and everything to divide the party. If your followers are bitter and stupid enough to vote for a Republican for President (or sit the election out) because you aren’t the Democrat candidate, you are to blame as they are simply following your lead and adopting your bitter and entitled attitude.

Sincerely,
A former supporter

And now, a Stonehenge update

Stonehenge Used as Cemetery From the Beginning

New research shows that Stonehenge was used for more than 500 years as a cemetery. The burials were initially uncovered in a pit around the edge and in the nearby ditch surrounding the monument.

Army suicides reported up again

This makes me most sad. When will we realize we can’t ask people to commit and live among atrocities and then expect them to be shiny happy people?

An Army official said Thursday that 115 troops committed suicide in 2007, a nearly 13 percent increase over the previous year’s 102. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because a full report on the deaths wasn’t being released until later Thursday.

Mr. Integrity

Because McCain hates lobbyists so much…he employs a ton of them. There were a couple last week who either quit the campaign or were let go. Here’s the latest:

Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain’s national campaign general co-chair was being paid by a Swiss bank to lobby Congress about the U.S. mortgage crisis at the same time he was advising McCain about his economic policy, federal records show.

The Phoenix has landed

Today, the Phoenix landed on Mars – the first “rocket and legs” landing done by NASA in 32 years. You can follow the mission’s progress on the NASA site.

Maybe I should snap more crappy photos at work

Vote by Mail, Go to Jail

An excellent article via the Texas Observer about our lovely, “fair and balanced” Attorney General.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott prosecutes Democrats who help seniors vote by mail while ignoring Republican ballot-box stuffing.

One Country’s Table Scraps, Another Country’s Meal

This article reminds me of me one Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner at my Grandparents’ house. I was helping Grandma Wilson transfer food from the cooking pots to the table dishes. I had dished up the mashed potatoes and was starting on the green beans when Grandma picked up the potato pot and said, “you left enough in here for one more kid,” and started scraping the rest out of the pot. Born in 1920, she was a child of the Great Depression and never completely forgot the lean times and what that did to her family. I was a child of the baby boom – a time of prosperity, mass consumerism and waste. Nothing brought the differences of our formative years home to me more than watching her scrap that pot until there was no hint of potatoes left.

Mr. President, the war isn’t about you — or golf

Oh, this rant is most delicious. I could quote passages of it, but there are too many that are absolutely perfect. Just please, go read it.

Here it comes!

This is hilarious and fascinating: a video of moving a 100 year old church across country complete with specially written/performed choir song! Bits of it remind of Monty Python animation. I think my favorite shot is of the steeple appearing over the horizon.
