Editorial – So Little Time, So Much Damage

NYTimes.com

While Americans eagerly vote for the next president, here’s a sobering reminder: As of Tuesday, George W. Bush still has 77 days left in the White House — and he’s not wasting a minute.

President Bush’s aides have been scrambling to change rules and regulations on the environment, civil liberties and abortion rights, among others — few for the good. Most presidents put on a last-minute policy stamp, but in Mr. Bush’s case it is more like a wrecking ball. We fear it could take months, or years, for the next president to identify and then undo all of the damage.

I survived the election

The first time I sign up to work the polls and the precinct I was at had record numbers. We had 50 people in line at 7am. They’ve never had people in line at 7am. I mean, how many students actually get up at 7am? Despite the fact that almost 50% of the precinct voted early, we herded about 1,500 people through our 10 voting machines. At times, the line wrapped around three times in the large library foyer we were in. Also, I had to send a huge chunk of people to other precincts to vote because they were in the wrong place. So, I really have no idea how many people I actually ID/precinct checked today! I was pretty much standing from 6am – 8:45pm – just one short break to scarf down a peanut butter sandwich (and check on the alarm going off in my house and update my Facebook status – priorities, you know) and a little bit of sitting towards the end when things were wrapping up.

Thanks to everyone who was nice and pleasant when a sweaty fat lady with bozo the clown hair (I seriously need a haircut) told them they were in the wrong precinct and they needed to go elsewhere to vote. I felt bad every time I had to say that to someone!

Vote! Vote! Vote!

A lady in town had an Obama sign stolen from her yarn. This ticked her off. So, she spray painted the Obama logo on her lawn.

Palin falls prey to Canadian pranksters – Yahoo! News

U.S. vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin fell prey to a Canadian prankster on Saturday when he called her impersonating French President Nicolas Sarkozy and got her to accept an invitation to hunt baby seals.

In an over-the-top French accent, a member of the Quebec comedy duo “The Masked Avengers,” famous for tricking celebrities and politicians including Sarkozy himself, asked if Palin would take him on a hunting trip by helicopter, and then in French said they could also go kill baby seals.

An apparently oblivious Palin said she thought that would be fun. “We could have a lot of fun together as we’re getting work done. We could kill two birds with one stone that way.”

…..

The prankster responded by complimenting Palin on a notorious Hustler porn film “Nailin’ Paylin,” which he said was a documentary of her life.

“Oh good, thank you,” Palin said.
